Sean “Guido” Patrick Platt, age 45, of Griffith, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025.
That day, the world lost a truly beautiful soul — a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Sean was someone the universe seemed to send into our lives just when we needed him — and we are all better for having known and loved him.
Born on May 10, 1980, in Chicago, Illinois, Sean grew up with a vibrant spirit and a deep love for people. He graduated from Boone Grove High School in Valparaiso and went on to attend Columbia College in Chicago. Throughout his life, Sean wore many hats — working in the hotel industry and most recently with RQA in Tinley Park, Illinois — but it was his gift for connection and kindness that defined him far more than any job title ever could.
In March 2017, Sean married his soulmate, Melanie Kay Scheeringa, the love of his life. Together they built a life full of laughter, music, sports, and unconditional love in Griffith, Indiana.
Sean is deeply loved by his beloved wife Melanie; his parents, Mark and Tricia Platt; his sisters, Jessica (Jason) Thomas; the late Lauren (Caleb) Kitchen, brother Ryan (Jessica) Platt, nieces Alysia (Myles) Singleton, Alyssa Gilliam, Addison, Lily Stevens, Ava Stevens, Kami Scheeringa, nephews Jordan Thomas, Blake Kitchen, Cooper Platt, Bodie Platt, and great-nephew Rayne Singleton; He also leaves behind countless loving sister in-laws, brother in-laws, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends who became like family. His loyal dogs, Scrappy and Stella, never left his side and were part of his heart and home.
Sean was preceded in death by his beloved sister Lauren Claire Platt Kitchen, Grandparents Bill and Anne Marie Platt and Charles and Jean Burns, a piece of his heart he carried with him always.
To know Sean was to be greeted with warmth, laughter, and often a perfectly timed joke. He had a rare gift: he never met a stranger, and he was never a stranger to anyone. His heart was bigger than his body, and his kindness knew no limits. He was the kind of man who made everyone feel seen, welcomed, and loved.
A loyal fan of the Chicago White Sox (and only the White Sox!) and a die-hard Chicago Bears supporter, Sean’s love of sports was matched only by his passion for music. He never missed a chance to see Pearl Jam live, no matter how far the concert — or how last-minute the plan. But his favorite moments were always those spent surrounded by family, especially his nieces and nephews, who adored their “Uncle Sean” and knew he’d do anything to make them laugh or feel special.
Sean's energy, humor, and love will echo in the lives he touched. He will be remembered as someone who lived with an open heart, who lifted spirits without even trying, and who left a legacy of joy, loyalty, and unwavering love.
