Shirley Ruth McKinley

Shirley Ruth McKinley, the daughter of Flora Gainey was born June 7, 1941 on Brimstone Mountain in Robbins, Tennessee. Shirley passed away 84 years later on Mother’s Day-May 10, 2026.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Marc Ward McKinley; brother, Robert Lowe of Brimstone Mountain and her children, Richard Hall, Susan Hall Jernigan, Debra Hall, Daniel Hall and Sharon Hall. Additionally, Shirley has 10 grandchildren
and 17 great-grandchildren.
After she married Marc in 1982, she graduated from Indiana University Northwest in December 1986 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Her accomplishments in college led her to being in Who’s Who in 1987. After College, she worked a short while at Inland Steel. However, Shirley’s main focus was being a loving wife and to help raise two of her grandchildren by Sharon Hall – Courtney (1991) and Catlyn (1995). Courtney named her Mimi which became her pseudo name for the rest of her life.
After the granddaughters grew up, she became, along with her husband, deeply involved in the 5 great-grandchildren by Courtney – Liam, Logan, Laila, Ivy and Evie. She spent her last 14 years giving selflessly to these 5 great-grandchildren. Also, Shirley loved watching Fox News, binge watching Netflix, coloring and playing games on her iPad and shopping on Amazon.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 5-7pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN.
