She was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Younger McKnight, her parents Wade Moore and Julia Lesniewski, her brother Daniel Lee Moore, sisters-in-law Betty McKnight and Susan Moore, step-sister Sharon Carter and cousins Gail Elboar, Paulene Craig, and Robert Moore.
Shirley was born to Wade Harvey Moore and Julia Wojtena on March 3, 1935 in East Chicago, Indiana. She married James McKnight on October 29, 1966 and then settled in Griffith where they raised their five children.
In her early years she attended four elementary schools and seven high-schools. The locations include four in Indiana, two in New Mexico and one in Arizona. Later in life, she attended Ivy Tech where she enjoyed learning about computers, networking, and web design.
.She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1966 with a firm testimony of Jesus Christ and His doings in that church. She served in many different callings both on the Ward and Stake levels.
She was a member of the Just for Fun Ukulele Strummers group and enjoyed playing with the group in local nursing homes, churches, various events, and especially at Pierogi Fest.
She was a woman of many talents and interests including toll painting, cross-stitch, sewing costumes for a grandson’s High School Play, making blankets and stuffed animals for her great-grandson, baking breads for her family, and playing the ukulele. She was known for the Birthday cards she sent to family members that contained a $5 bill that she lovingly folded into an origami object. Each year she sent out a new creation and hoped to be an expert at folding that object by the end of the year. With all her talents and interests, the love of teaching and sharing the gospel overruled all. She spent countless hours reading and studying the scriptures to prepare her Sunday lessons. She also talked about the Gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone willing to listen. She loved Christ with all her heart.
Although no longer with us, she expressed that she loves the many friends she made during her time here on earth, especially those who served her and her family in any way. She was continually blessed all of her life and is grateful for all of them.
