Susan passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022. Fiercely devoted mother of Christy, aunt to James, sister of Mary and Debbie. Reunited in Heaven with her beloved Verschelde and Bleskan families.
Sue was a lifelong educator determined to serve and protect the needs of young learners specifically those with learning or behavioral challenges, especially those from The R.I.S.E. Program, her “retirement job,” and Forest Trail Junior High (now Michelle Obama School of Technology and the Arts.)
Sue treated others with kindness, dignity, and respect – embracing all people regardless of their background, ability, and origin.
Sue served in soup kitchens. She enjoyed travel and reading mysteries, time with her best friend, and trips to the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Geneva with loved ones. She cherished these moments.
Sue was active in every sense of the word. She was a woman with empathy, class and grace who will be missed by too many to count. She will be cherished forever by her daughter – it was you and me against the world Mom. Not sure how I do this without you.
In honoring Sue’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. For those who wish, expressions of sympathy can be made by donating to a favorite charity in her memory.
