It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Terence Lee Henney, Sr., “Hawk”, aged 76, on June 9, 2026, at his home in Griffith, Indiana.
Born on June 21, 1949, in Chicago, IL, Terence was the son of Thomas Leonard and Alma Mae Henney, both of whom he has now rejoined in eternal rest. He was also preceded in death by his brother Thomas, sister Patricia, brother Michael, and sister Catherine.
Terence briefly served in the U.S. Army. Terence embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a Sheet Metal Worker (SMW Local 20), a profession he took great pride in until his retirement. On July 26, 1986, Terence married the love of his life, Charmaine and together shared almost 40 years, settling in Hammond then Griffith to raise their family. Terence was a proud and loving father to his children, Terence Jr., Roger, Brian, and Jennifer. He instilled in them the values he held dear and delighted in watching them grow and thrive. His legacy will also endure through his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Alexis, Kaylee, and Addison, and his precious great-grandchildren, Noah and Violet. He is survived by his siblings, Marlene, John, George, and Robert, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Terence found joy on the golf course, where he spent countless hours perfecting his swing and sharing stories. A gifted guitarist, Terence often filled his home with the soothing sounds of music. Terence also enjoyed playing cards, darts, billiards, drawing, and gambling. His quick wit, sharp mind, and occasional dark humor were unmatched. Terence was always there for his family, no matter the time or day.
To honor Terence's wishes, he will be cremated and a private celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to share a memory or a story in his honor. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
"Those you love don't go away, they walk beside you every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear."
Cremation Services entrusted to Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Highland, IN.
