He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents George and Bernice Pataky and stepfather Roy McNeil.
Tom was born on July 14, 1960, in Hammond, Indiana and graduated from Highland High School in 1978. He spent 36 years working at Central Rent-A-Crane where his dedication and reliability were well known. He retired on July 28, 2017, closing a
chapter of which he was extremely proud.
Tom found joy in life’s simple pleasures – playing softball, golf and pickleball with his friends, long bike rides in Wicker Park and always lending a helping hand to keep the grounds around his townhome neighborhood looking just right. He loved spending time in Sarasota, cheering on Notre Dame, and most of all, being surrounded by family.
Tom had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and was lovingly known as the best “UT” to the little ones. They adored him and never missed the chance to tease him until he chased after them, followed by endless giggles, screams
and laughter! He never turned down a dinner invitation with his family and especially looked forward to homemade pierogi and Kolaczki cookies at Christmas time – traditions that we will forever carry with his memory.
Tom will be remembered for his kind heart, playful spirit and the deep love he shared for his family and friends – leaving memories that will be cherished forever.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday January 17, 2026, beginning at 12:00, noon, with a Family Sharing time and Eulogy at 4:00 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Home, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Road), Highland, Indiana
