Thomas Kubacki Obituary

Thomas J. Kubacki, 64, of Walkerton, IN passed away in the presence of family and surrounded by love on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

He is survived and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 32 years, Donna (Saksa) Kubacki, his daughter, Kristin and her fiancé, Shawn Masten. Tom is the cherished brother-in-law of Mike and Mary Jo Saksa, Linda Wilson, Matt and Patti Lesniewski, and James Saksa. He is a proud uncle of many nieces, nephews and their families. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Arlene Kubacki, his father and mother-in-law, Michael and Irene Saksa, brother-in-law, Jack Wilson, and great-nephew, Henry Wilson.

Tom was born August 7th, 1957 in Whiting, IN and grew to have many passions. Some of his most memorable childhood times were made in the family grocery store, under the watchful eye of his father. He learned the importance of his heritage and keeping family traditions alive. Each year, he spent hours preparing for the holidays by making Polish sausage, Hungarian rice sausage, nut roll, and much more.

Tom was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and collector. In his early years, he was known to have a need for speed. He logged many hours on the track, whether it was pavement, gravel or ice. Tom spent much of his spare time rebuilding what was broken and making his motorcycles new again.

In 1989, Tom and Donna put the city behind them and built a life in the middle of 42 acres. Tom jumped right in to the farm life. He loved being involved in all steps of taking food from the farm to the table, including gardening, raising animals, and the processing of both. In October of 1995, his famous words, “Honey, I love you so much I bought you a horse!” opened his world up to the new adventure of TDK Clydesdales, which is still being traveled today.

Throughout his 64 years, Tom worked hard to provide for his family and friends. He pushed himself to further his already extensive knowledge and become the jack-of-all-trades that he was. With that knowledge and extreme generosity, there was no individual that he would not go out of his way to help. Tom also supported many local groups and organizations, including those that meant the most to Donna and Kristin. He was so proud of all of their accomplishments and was always there to cheer them on. His generosity also extended to animals of any kind. Tom spent more time and money spoiling pets, whether his or not, than he ever would on himself.

Over the past year, Tom became very involved in the planning and preparing for Kristin and Shawn’s upcoming wedding in September of 2022. He was so proud of the woman and teacher she has become and was excited to celebrate the new addition to his family. We know that he will be in their hearts and he will be smiling from above on their big day.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, February 5th, 2022 from 2-7pm EST at the American Legion Post #189 (302 Legion Drive, Walkerton, IN). Memorials can be made to the family and will be allocated to Tom’s passions. Arrangements are being held by Hillside Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Highland, IN. A special thank you to Henry Blake, Tom’s childhood friend, for his kindness and helpful guidance.
