In loving memory of Thomas Edward Richter, born on August 18, 1932, who peacefully passed away on January 16, 2024, due to complications from heart disease.
Tom graduated from North Judson High School in 1952 and was a devout member of St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in North Judson. On October 8, 1955, he married his beloved Emma Jean Hartman who spent 57 loving years together till her death in 2012.
He is survived by his children: Nancy (John) Czarnecki of Saint John, Carol (Joe) Popovich of Highland, Lori (Darryl) Dean of Monticello, and Joe Richter of Indianapolis. Sadly, his daughter Janet preceded him in death.
Tom was a cherished grandfather to Michelle Gaik (Jeff), Mark Popovich (Hannah), Kevin Popovich (Sarah), Thomas "TJ" Richter (Holly), Daniel Richter (Gabbie), and Michael Richter.
He leaves behind great-grandchildren Anders Popovich and Harper Gaik.
Tom was born to Joseph Richter and Otilla Luprich and is survived by his sister Margaret Karress. He is preceded in death by his siblings Joe Richter, Ceil Theim, Lou Richter, Rita Okray, Ben Richter, and Jim Richter.
In addition to his dedicated family life, Tom had a fulfilling career at Indiana Harbor Belt, where he contributed his skills and hard work. His commitment to his profession was a testament to his character and industrious spirit.
Beyond his professional and family life, Tom was a skilled individual who, with the support of family and friends, embarked on the remarkable journey of building four houses. His determination, craftsmanship, and the collaborative effort of loved ones
resulted in homes that stand as a lasting testament to his enduring legacy. Tom's ability to bring people together for such meaningful projects showcased not only his construction prowess but also his knack for fostering connections and creating lasting memories.
Services to honor the life of Thomas Edward Richter will be held at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service held at 6:30 pm. The address is 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN, 46322. This gathering provides an opportunity for family, friends, and acquaintances to come together, share memories, and pay their respects to a beloved individual whose impact will be remembered for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association in Thomas's memory.
