Timothy Gene Merriman Sr, age 80, of Griffith, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Nancy; children Tracey Merriman, Tim (Lisa) Merriman Jr., sister Betty J. Merriman, sisters-in-law Judy Sharp and Debbie (Jeff) Bream; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; also dear friends of the family Ryan Thomas and his daughter Sami.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Josephine Merriman.
Tim was born on August 26, 1945 in East Chicago, Indiana. He graduated from George Rogers Clark High School in Whiting, IN, in 1965. He achieved rank of Eagle Scout and went on to become an Explorer Scout. He enlisted in the United States Navy on January 5, 1966, and was stationed in Long Beach, California on the USS Bennington during the Vietnam War.
Tim and Nancy were married on June 24, 1972 and shared 53 years together. They raised two children in Griffith. He worked as an Industrial Electrician in Chicago Heights, Illinois at Desoto Chemical Plant/ Rohm and Haas.
As a man of faith, Tim was a devoted member of First Christian Church of Lansing. He found great joy in the outdoors, spending as much time as he could fishing with his boys and taking hunting trips up north and out west with his father. He also enjoyed cars, especially hot rods. At any given time, you could find him either on the water or in the garage with a project, getting ready for a car show, parade, or to go out cruising.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Griffith First Christian Church, 202 West Pine Street, Griffith, IN, 46319 on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
