Virginia Faye Gaither

Virginia Faye Gaither, age 87, of Hammond, Indiana peacefully passed away at home on June 2, 2026.

She is survived by her husband, Kermet Gaither; children, Karen (Goldwyn) Gabriel, Kevin Gaither, and Karla (Mark) Hausenfleck; grandchildren, Amanda (Derek) Wartman, Kyle (Mary) Gabriel, Kaleena Hausenfleck, Kristin (Nelson) Lopez, and Kraig (Brittany) Hausenfleck; great grandchildren, Charlotte, Florence, and Harrison Gabriel, Everly, Lilyana, and Nelson Lopez, Lincoln and Violet Wartman, Chase and Eleanor McKernan, and Jaxson Hausenfleck, numerous nieces, nephews and long time neighbors.

Preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Nellie Stauter, step-mother Edna, sister Mary Pittman and brother Jimmy Hill.

She was born February 22, 1939 in Hammond Indiana and graduated from Hammond Tech Vocational High School as her class Valedictorian. On July 16, 1960, she married Kermet Gaither and they shared 65 years together.

She was a secretary for the Hammond School System, Pine Street Church and Attorney Thomas Vater.

Virginia was a member of Pine Street Presbyterian Church in Hammond where she served as church secretary for 25 years, Sunday School teacher, VBS volunteer, Women’s Prayer team and more. When Pine Street closed she transferred membership to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hessville. She was currently attending Hammond Christian Reformed Church.

Virginia was a loving wife, mom, Jama, Great-Jama, Aunt Gino and friend who will be missed by all who love her.

She liked to garden, craft, word search books and have family dinners.

Virginia appreciated and was very fortunate to receive the loving care from caregivers; Virginia Vitualla, Home Instead and Powers Home Health.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Hillside Funeral Home 8941 Kleinman Road, Highland Indiana.
The Funeral Service will be held immediately after the visitation at 12:00pm with her nephew, Pastor Tim Hill officiating.

Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 1413 169th Street, Hammond, Indiana 46324.
