Virginia Michalak

Virginia Michalak, age 93 of Highland, IN passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021.  She is survived by her daughters Donna Zisoff (Jim LaMontagna) and Michelle Flores; sons Richard Michalak (Todd Rowley) and Thomas (Patty) Michalak; grandchildren Kimberly (David) Daley, Melissa (Dominic) Ortiz, Nicole Flores, Brianne (Ryan) McCarthy, Megan Michalak and Emily Michalak; great grandchildren Joshua Daley and Christian (CJ) Ortiz; sister Dorothy Bardoczi and many nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death was her beloved husband Thaddeus (Ted Michalak); parents Otto and Margaret Hausman; siblings Margaret Tarr, Elaine Stupeck, and Otto Hausman, Jr.; sons-in-law Donald Zisoff and Xavier Flores.

Virginia always had an adventurous spirit.  One of the highlights of her youth was singing in a swing band for the reserve troops during World War II.  She married the love of her life, Ted Michalak and moved to Highland in 1952.  There they proceeded to build a wonderful life together and raise their 4 children.  Virginia was an avid baker and gardener.  She possessed a quick wit and always had a joke ready for any occasion.  Her beliefs, values, open heart and ear to listen provided guidance to all.  Virginia was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church in Highland since 1954.  She sat in the second row from the front on the left side, her “reserved” spot.  She would always joke that Father would not start Mass without her.  Virginia was the matriarch of her family and will be truly missed.

Visitation will be held at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Road (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN on Monday, August 2, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with the Funeral Mass following immediately at Our Lady of Grace Church, 3005 Highway Avenue in Highland.  Interment will be at Chapel Lawn, Schererville. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Calumet Area.
