Wanda (Zak) Pobereyko

Wanda Pobereyko, (nee Zak), 98, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 29, 2023.

She is  survived by many special and loving nephews and nieces, as well as many great-nephews and great-nieces.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter (Swede) Pobereyko, her parents, Joseph and Johanna Zak, siblings, Stephanie Ziolkowski, Estelle Rogers, Frank Zak and Henry Zak. 

Wanda grew up in the Hegewisch neighborhood of Chicago and attended St. Florian School through the 8th grade.  She met and married her husband Peter Pobereyko and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until he passed away.

Wanda lived a simple, quiet life.  She enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy and Hallmark movies.  She valued her Polish heritage and had great memories of her visits to Poland with her sister, Stephanie.  She loved sweet cheese and potato pierogis and good polish sausage, Irish Soda Bread, Panettone and her daily oatmeal. 

Most of all, though, Wanda loved time spent with a special and loved circle of family members.  Her positive outlook on life and sense of humor, even in her last days, will be missed by all who loved her.

Visitation and will be at Hillside Funeral and Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd), Highland, Indiana, 46322, on Thursday, June 1 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. followed by funeral service officiated by Pastor Bob.
