William (Bill) Henry Metz passed away on October 19, 2025.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patricia, his two daughters Sharon and Sheryl, son Steve, his seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, his extended family, and many beloved friends who all will miss him dearly.
Bill had a life well lived. He grew up in the Beverly Neighborhood of Chicago and spent his summers on the family farm in North Dakota. This would help shape his enduring work ethic. He served his country in the Navy during the Korean War and traveled around the world two times. He raised his family in Thornton, IL and served his community through the Thornton American Legion, the Thornton Lions Club, the Harvey YMCA, was President of the Thornton School Board for many years, and was an active member of various Appraisal Boards and was active in many charities. Bill’s real estate work and education earned him the MAI and SRPA designations through the Appraisal Institute, and he served as a past President of the South Suburban Real Estate Board. Bill owned a successful Real Estate Appraisal firm for 40+ years. He was an Eagle Scout for which he was very proud.
Bill formed many lifelong friendships through, playing handball, water and snow skiing, boating, snowmobiling, traveling, golfing, and charity work. He shared many of these activities with his children and grandchildren, which they will always be grateful for the memories and lifelong lessons.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Briar Ridge Country Club, 123 Country Club Drive, Schererville, Indiana on November 23, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with a brief service at 2:00 pm.
