Yvonne "Vonnie" Ferczok Goodrich

Yvonne “Vonnie” Ferczok Goodrich was born August 23, 1946 in Hammond, IN and passed away peacefully on July 14, 2021 with her children by her side and their hands in hers. She grew up in Burnham, IL and graduated from Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City, IL. She earned her cosmetology license from Don Roberts Beauty School after high school, opened her own shop, and continued to provide haircuts for her children, grandchildren, and friends long after she left the profession. She worked as the office manager for Morrison Construction for 35 years, retiring in 2017. 

Visitation will be on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, with a service at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 PM.  Burial will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hammond, IN.

In retirement, she enjoyed time with her family, friends, and pets (Oboe and Sammy) , as well as hours in her gardens and sitting around her fire pit, relishing in being surrounded by those she loved and an occasional margarita. Her absolute favorite thing to do was getting flowers to plant in the spring and pumpkins and gourds in the fall.  Happiest when she was with her family, she found any reason she could to prepare a big meal and celebrate together. Hers was always the house where people gathered, whether it be her friends or lifelong friends of Mickey and David; she was always there to shower people with gifts and long conversations. She lived every day of her life for her family and did everything in her power to provide for her kids while they were growing up - her greatest accomplishment was when they graduated from college. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jennie Ferczok in 1986, her father, Charles Ferczok in 2000, and her grandson, Baby Hanley in 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Michaelene Hanley (Johnny); her son, David Goodrich (Heather); her grandchildren Zoey Hanley, Greyson Goodrich and Graham Goodrich; her brother, Charles Ferczok (Bonny); her nieces Lisa Ferczok and Michelle (Steven) DeVries, and great nephews, Charles and Nicholas DeVries. She also had many other loved ones she considered children and grandchildren that she loved very much, as well as many friends who are all going to miss her deeply. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
