Zofia Anuszkiewicz, 89, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2026.
She is survived by loving children, Margaret (Thomas), Lydia (Steve), and Mark (Susie); grandchildren, John, Nicholas, Michael, Jenny, Emily, Miranda, and Scott; great grandchildren, Jasper, Nathan, Max, Fitz, Norah, and Saige; siblings, Ela, Jan, and Krystyna; numerous nieces and nephews, with a special place in her heart for her sister, Ela and Ela’s children, Agnes and Tom.
Zofia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roman; and siblings Teresa, Maria, Roma, Kazimierz, Michal, and Grzegorz.
Zofia met her love, Roman, while vacationing in Mazury, Poland. She was a single traveler who was seated at a table of three gentlemen. She was immediately smitten by Roman; he asked her to go kayaking; she gladly agreed even though she had never before been kayaking. It was the beginning of a grand adventure that would eventually lead them to the United States with their young family. Zofia continued to travel throughout her life, often returning to Poland to spend time with her family there, but Hawaii was also a favorite stop. She enjoyed walking, singing, playing cards, and hosting wonderful dinner parties. But most of all, her heart belonged to her family. She was most happy surrounded by her large extended family sharing time with her. Her beautiful spirit will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Zofia’s name may be made to VNA Hospice of NWI, 1450 E. Joliet Street, Crown Point, Indiana 46307.
